My artistic focus has always involved the concept of nature and humankinds interaction with the physical world. The images from the Where the Waters Meet series are devoid of sound, devoid of people, and devoid of colour. They are slow transformations of places caught between the will of man and the power of nature. These are not majestic places of grandeur and awe. They are subtle in their beauty and the questions that they pose about man, nature, and life on this planet. The images from the Reworking series are cold, austere urban sites that are in, or have recently been in, a state of flux. They are micro examples of the forever reshaping of a place. The Lake Ontario Park series is a visual documentation of a place with a grand cultural history that in the near future may end up as subject matter for the Reworking portfolio. Artistically, I am attracted to the richness of the visual elements of the subjects, to the various readings that the images offer the viewer, and to the irony of the photographic medium as a tool for documentation.
